For anybody in the 21st century to take a picture as "evidence" that something's been done, is irresponsible.
It may very well be legit but I'd never, ever trust a photo anymore as evidence of a product's existence. Even video is highly suspect these days. It's harder but still easy enough to fake imagery with the right tools. I do it every day.
-Kevin S.
Here is what I don't get. All these photos are taken with crappy cell phone cameras. I would believe the photos more if they were taken with a better camera. They don't have to be professionally taken, but geez, do they ALL have to be crappy cell phone pictures?
The slickie-boys that make them (when they are faked) figure it adds a certain level of realism if the photo is crappy like a cell camera photo. Pristine pictures are actually easier to doctor. If I were faking, I'd probably make it look like a camera phone with a touch of added blur.
-Kevin S.
Kevin, Why did he not take a screen shot in place of a crappy cell phone photo?
That's what I would have done. Pretty hard to fake a screen shot.
On the flip side, some people have run the Mac platform on a PC.
Any thoughts
From the other Kevin
A screen shot in this situation proves nothing at all. The point is to have XP running on an intel Mac, meaning you need a picture of the hardware in addition to the screen.
-Ryan
I don't think there is any way to take a screenshot of the process. The only way I have ever done it is using VMware.
I've been following this for a long time, and i know that these people are at the heart of the operation. why would someone who is that recognized by the forum, go and fake a picture like that???
Just trying to keep my hopes up.. I would really love playing games on a MBP
This is the epitome of everything that is wrong with this contest:
"Don't expect him to share anything (VGA was a huge hurdle according to narf), and as he says, he's not giving that piece of the puzzle away before the contest is over. Once it's over, I'm sure you'll be able to use whatever pieces he has to try to get Vista booting-- just be patient and wait till he and his team are finished"
So we have to wait around because folks won't share. For all we know some other team has the next big problem figured out, but rather than working together we have to wait for one team to figure out each and every problem by themselves. Ick.
I wish nobody had ever put money up. The problem would be solved already. After all, some of the Linux folks already got some version running on the Intel hardware, and they did it for free.
Oh, and the thread referenced hints that they may have had to modify the Windows kernel to get it working. No thanks. I would consider a dual boot with an unmodified copy of windows but hacking the Windows kernel (or the hardware firmware, which was also mentioned) isn't going to cut it for me.
So they dont want to share yet, but they are going to have to if they want the money. who says noone else is close... if it was me i would be on the safe side and take the money now.
I guess Vista will not support EFI, which Apple is using instead of BIOS, at first.

There is a link to a video on digg

...yes. I'm guess that is most likely the case. On the up side you're not alone, as I too will not be winning the prize money. ![]()

The contest holders are now testing the submission

The news of xp and mac dual booting has stunned the web. Most forums and websites are unable to keep servers running under the huge amount of stress from visitors.
For those who cant see the news themselves can now happly know that Xp runs on Mac(Imac, Macbook pro, Mac mini). The contest money has been sent to Narf and any further donations will go to development and future launch of XP on Mac. Which should be at hte end of this week
Rumors of a downloadable iso are buzzing around meaning you might not have to hack the OS yourself.![]()

Why is everyone so hyped on getting xp on a mac when they should be trying to get os x on a pc. I know that macs looks better but the hardware isn't that great.
The fact is many would rather use Os X but beacause of work they have to use windows. in my case i love Os X but i love playing lan with my friends and since apple doesnt play half the games i want to I have to use windows.
No the hardware isn't that great in all situations but take the MBP... It looks better, the Os is better, it preformes better compared to other notbooks same size.
why boot OsX on a PC, when you can use OsX on a MBP and only switch to Xp when needed.
Everyone ive talked to on the onmacforum are buying a mac now because its possibly to dual boot. Kindda think it helps apple sales, just the fact that MacIntels Could run Windows in theory drove sales up.
