Check in the BIOS to see if the HDD is listed?
Is it jumpered correctly?

How was the file system in this HDD prepared?

Does it show up in Disk Management?

Another way to check is using the Recovery Console.

Is the drive good?

I had a dead drive that the BIOS and all utils could see
but none of them could copy from.

Windows didn't even show it in computer management.

That's a good sign. After you have the files safely backed up, try running CHKDSK on said volume/drive in the Recovery Console.

Oops. Forgot to mention TWEAKUI

Another person found that a command window and DIR E: worked, but Explorer didn't list the drive. TWEAKUI was then installed to unhide drive letters from Explorer.
