xp no start fron hd only start from cd

i reformatted hd installed xp everything works fine except that in order to start computer must leave xp cd in drive to load. what would the cause???? someone had said that maybe my master and slave drives were screwed. possible since this is old gateway POS. how can i get xp to boot from hd not disk.
xp home sp2 intel celeron 432 mhz 128 mb of ram
CAN ANYONE HELP BESIDES BLOWING IT UP??????????

Get to the RECOVERY CONSOLE and try...

FIXBOOT

then

FIXMBR

If the BIOS ANTIVIRUS protection is enabled, this won't work.
