XP Media Center pauses

Purchased a media center compaq presario for just that.
It is win xp mce 2002 with service pack 2.
amd athalon 64
2 gig of ram loads of hard disk space.
Only software on this machine is pre loaded.
It is used specifically as media center. record tv, watch vid dvd , music, photos Ect.

Very anoying prob.

Every thirty minutes or so, while watching tv, dvd, pictures ect. It pauses, then drops into the desktop, then goes back to media center then the tv,vid, dvd continues. When it does this there is a lot of hard drive activity as if a buffer or something is being written to disk. When it does this the whole thing only takes a matter of 3 to 5 seconds.

Thing is, this is a freakin media center pc.
Very anoying that you all into a movie or tv and it stops disapears then starts again. seems to be every 30 minutes or so this happens.

Any suggestions to help get rid of this problem please?

Thanks

Make your request as simple as possible.

Upgrade

In reply to: XP Media Center pauses

That is a little strange that a new computer would have MCE 2002 on it?
Go to the Microsoft download site and download "upgrade rollup 2 for Windows XP media Center edition 2005"
There is also "Windows XP Media Center Edition update"
I had problems with MCE similar to what you are having. I downloaded the upgrade and also downloaded Windows Media player 11 and have not had any problems since.

well, I bought two a few months apart. One is a compaq and the other is hewlett packard. They both have XP medi center edition 2002.

I think i got the HP from Best Buy bout 9 months ago and the Copaq from Circuit City bout 2 or three.
Will try the updates and if no luck then see what CC has to suggest.

Did all the updates. Since this machine is only online once a week for 5 minutes to DL the guide, i have not been keeping up with them on this particular machine. There were lots!
Now will just use it as usual and see if any of the updates made system changes that affect my little anoying problem.
