You did not mention if you are using XP Home Edition or Pro.
If Home boot into Safe Mode (press F8 on boot) and select the Administrator account.
If Pro on the Welcome Screen press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice and log on as Administrator.
Then go to Control Panel | User Accounts and create a new User account and give it Computer Administrator status.
Now restart in the normal mode and boot into the new User account.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel and change your old User account to Computer Administrator and log off the new User account so you can log on as your old User account.
It will now be a Computer Administrator so you can download and install programs.
When you are sure this is accomplished you can then delete the newly created User account.
I just did that for a client today when all her user accounts were assigned as Limited Users and there was no option to change the User account types back to Computer Administrator.
Have Home Network with 5 computers running Windows XP,
I made the mistake on one computer and changed my
name from Administrator to a Limited Account, dumb but
I was playing thinking I could change it back, but I am now locked on this computer to a Limited Account.
I have gone to Control Panel to User Accounts and I
only have three options: 1.create a password: 2.change
my picture: 3.change m.net passport. I cannot do
windows updates on this computer as a Limited Account.
Help! how can I get this computer back from Limited to Administrator>??? My name as administrator is the same on all of the computers.
