xp install no go.

by nofret / May 17, 2009 10:06 AM PDT

Hi all. I`m trying to get my old xp pc going for the kids. First; When I tried to re-install xp it kept saying I cant have two os`s on the same partition. I thought xp would wipe out the old os and install xp. sp1. Now; I go to boot from the cd and I get `press any key to boot from cd' Problem is, the keyboard wont respond. It works when I`m in the bios. Only when it pops that question does the keyboard quit. Help. Please. The pc is a Touch system, amd athlon 64, 1gb ram. Thanks.

Forgot one thing; after a minute, the screen goes from press any key to boot from cd, to a `general protection fault' allong with a whole bunch of codes.

I had to leave myself a note to unplug USB printers, etc during XP installs.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
