xp home problem

my xp home addition froze and i was prompted to reload from disc when i tried this it wouldnt let me load it as windows as it said this would lose all my data so i loaded it as windows2
when it rebooted i'd lost everything so i thought but when i searched for things ie pictures/music i could still find some of them, also if i open my computer and then open boot c my original windows is there but i cant re install it, any ideas

Try taking Ownership

This tells you how to take ownership of those folders and files from the old XP installation from within the new one.
