I was actually shocked last night. Something Microsoft promised actually worked. I purchased a new PC running XP Home, which is a downgrade from the XP Pro on my old system. I plugged the new pc into my broadband router, and it not only recognized my internet connection but saw my old computer on my network WITHOUT ME CONFIGURING ANYTHING! Cool!
I next used the File and Transfer Files Wizard under Accessories/System Tools to see what would happen.
It appears that most of my settings (Outlook Express, desktop settings) transferred. I believe most of the actual data files transferred, along with their folders. BUT I DON'T THINK THE ACTUAL APPLICATIONS transferred. For example, For some of the game apps, I see the actual data files, but not the executable files or their associated icons to run the program. Is this the way the file and transfer wizard is supposed to work?
(I did prompt me that certain programs would need reinstallation, but I think they all need to be reinstalled).
Thanks in advance. I may not be able to respond with a progress report for a day or so.
W!
