XP Home crashes

Nov 24, 2003 5:50PM PST

This is the second time in 6 months that this has happened, the last time just stopped on its own after a couple of weeks. What happens is that when I try to read messages in Outlook express, my computer crashes and will do nothing. I have to unplug it from the wall and when I plug it back in, it works until I try OE again. I have run antivirus checks multiple times, no results. ISP refuses to claim responsibality or help. What is going on? JB

"ISP refuses to claim responsibality or help. What is going on?"

I lamented that IE/OE have issues and are far from BULLETPROOF. I posted a JAVASCRIPT example in which OE promptly locked up in 30 seconds. The line of code which the OE reader couldn't see in the HTML message was like this:

meta refresh=30,file:javascript:on true {alert('Goodbye!');

In the test email, OE would stop dead in the programmed 30 seconds. As you can see, the ISP can't support you since this is an oversight my the author of OE.

You ask how to delete EMAIL without viewing. Just turn off the preview pane.

Bob

PS. The example is from memory so the exact syntax is not correct or could be. I supply it for the discussion of the issue, not as a discussion of the exploit.

Thanks All for trying. I did not cure the problem. After 36 hours the problem again cleared itself up. This was after many attempts to access my E-mail. I am the only user of this PC. JB
