XP from External HD

Oct 28, 2006 12:07PM PDT

Is it possible to install Win XP to an external hard drive (i.e Western Digital Passport II 80 GB HD), and then run XP from that drive? Would you be able to plug into another computer and run this setup?

No.

Microsoft thwarts that on 2 fronts. First the installer doesn't do that and second, product activation would kill it. Finally, XP doesn't like moves from machine to machine.

Linux however does support such.
