Dec 28, 2003 10:50PM PST

I want to transfer all my music files that I have on my old computer to my new one using the transfer wizzard. The new one is running Xp home edition & the old one is running Win. ME. Both are connected to a Links Router which is connected to cable for the internet. When I used the wizzard I get to where it ask for please type in password for your new computer but i don't have a password on the new computer. Can anybody tell me what i need to do to make this work.

When using file sharing in XP, the user on the 98 box needs an account too. Welcome to XP!

Here's an article about FAST that seems to help many.

File transfer on two networked computers are a matter of:

1) Setting both to the same workgroup name
2) Enabling file and print sharing on both
3) Sharing some folder
4) Drop and Drag or Copy and Paste the files.

A couple of statements certainly doesn't sound right!

1. When Windows XP is installed, Setup prompts for an Adminstrator account password which gets applied when setup completes, it never expires, and should be used afterwards to logon in Safe Mode only, [Q293834], [Q290109], and [Q298252].

2. User accounts and their password(s) are created by using Manage Users in Control Panel and by default, XP sets the password to expire in 30-days, which is an option that can be changed by the administrator. Manage the account by right-clicking a user's name, select Properties. Then select any of the following from the resulting context menu: User must change password at next logon; User cannot change password; Password never expires; Account is disabled; or Account is locked out. Please read the article, "HOW TO: Create and Configure User Accounts in Windows XP (Q279783)."
