Tell us how you reloaded XP.

How did you do that?

For example;

1] Repair installation, (use the XP Setup disk to re-load Windows over an existing install

2] Use the Windows Setup disk to delete a partition, reformat the disk and then install XP as a fresh install. The XP Drivers disk would also be required.

3] From a hidden "Recovery partition" created by the computer manufacturer/supplier on the hard disk.

4] From "Recovery Disks" created by you when you first got this system.

5] Any other method? Please give details.

I reloaded from XP disk ( repair would not work kept rebooting )I went into bios and made cd first boot option( it was the only way to get this far) and reloaded on same partitioned drive. Now have all programs but only SAFARI works for the internet and WINDOWS won't escept any updating, any downloads assigned to it

It looks like

you installed over the top of the existing installation instead of wiping the disk clean and re-installing.

It's a problem and the best way to solve it is to reformat the disk and reinstall XP, then find and install all the programs/applications you need.

XP doesn't create partitions very well

There's a better explanation than I can give at "The Elder Geek" here;
http://www.theeldergeek.com/hard_drives_05.htm

But you will see that he says 'right to left partitioning', making an existing partition smaller and creating a new partition, is not possible with XP alone, and he suggests using a utility like Partition Magic.

As always with these procedures, we only lose what we don't back up.
