xp download problems

Everytime I download anything it creates a icon on my windows opening page. I have a windows xp e machine. How do I get my files to save into my documents all the time, automatically instead of creating a icon/shortcut. Please help

Which browser are you using?

In firefox,>tools>options>main tab>tick "save files to".there is a browse button,not sure if this is what you are looking for.
