XP crashes

Feb 2, 2004 5:52AM PST

Xp crashes 2-3 times per day. Can be surfing, working in Microsoft Word, or sending an email. Doesn't seem to matter. Then restarts itself. Most common message relates it to the Savage 4 graphics driver. Troubleshooting always says it is working OK. If I try to download another, I am not sure first of all what to download and secondly, the computer tells me I already have the best option available.

Tip: If you are asking for help to troubleshoot a computer-related problem, please be sure to include all the necessary information (ie: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem for a speedy resolution.

Have you considered making this a warranty issue?

XP doesn't do this without cause. You can try the machine without a case cover to sniff out heat issues, and Microsoft rarely supplies current drivers. That button is just a DEMO. Your machine supplier should offer support and instructions on where the latest drivers are.

In closing, the other post you made about shutdown might be answered in that you are unlikely to have latest drivers since you revealed in this post you didn't check with the maker's web site about drivers. Be sure to look at the XP version of the Shutdown Article at http://www.aumha.org/articles.htm

Do you have another video card to try? I started having trouble with my computer, ie. rebooting by itself, blue screen error messages, lockups, etc. Turns out it was my Sandisk card reader that I had plugged into the front usb slot. Works OK on the rear usb but not the front. If you can try another card, I'll bet that solves your problem
