XP changes dialup connection password

I am setting up a new computer for my mother-in-law and setup a new internet connection with the dialup phone number to the ISP - her user name and her password. When the connection is attempted I get an error 169 incorrect user name and password. I go back into setup and in the password field are 16 characters shown where her original password was only four characters. I change the password back to the correct password and enter ok and exit - I go back into setup to check it and this phantom 16 character password is back.

Does anyone know what is happening here?

It is just for looks

In reply to: XP changes dialup connection password

It appears to be a longer password but the reality is, the added ***** are fake. I was told it has something to do with security.

Now why the connection isn't working? Have you looked up the error message? Have you contacted her ISP?

Her ISP is Juno and they want $1.95 per minute for me to even talk to tech support. I'm not sure what her $10/month fee for internet access is for. I think it might be time to get a new ISP
