XP CD and Product key

Can you tell me if each XP CD has only one product key that will work to install it.??.....have been given a brand new one from my brother but the store he bought it from installed the XP and there is no sticker ( which is supposed to be on his machine )....if the person who installed it for him used a different CD than the one in the box will there be no way for me to find a product key to go with the brand new never been opened and perfectly legal XP CD?

well if i was you id march myself down to store and demand my sticker(thats if you bout legaly)
if they refuse contact ms and ask them what is your options.
when i install xp on puters i afix sticker to case

Thanks...the store was a big chain but just in the new year stopped carrying any home office equipment..the puter employees left....so I guess I will have to contact MS and see what they say....thanks again...good idea..and yes it's definitely legal!

As far as the XP distribution CDs, there is no unique product ID for each. The CD that came with the computer should have the ID on the wrapping and the installer should have used that ID. If no product ID can be found, then you have a problem.

All you need is to download Aida32. This program will read all your system info including software and software id's, that includes your product code for windows software.

Did he give you the computer or just the XP CD? If just the CD, you cannot use it on a second PC

There is a program called Product Key Code Finder. This program will report the product key code that is currently being used. It is freeware and is a very small file.
