xp cannot connect to xp

by todd_dsm / January 21, 2010 11:35 AM PST

Hey all,

I have a dumb one here. 10 xp computers on the lan. All are present in the network neighborhood and working fine for the last 6 months.

Just today, a user tried to print from computer A to shared printer on computer B and there was a failure. Printer sharing on computer B has been working well for quite some time.

Also, the only person that logs into computer B also logs into computer B via VPN and remote desktop. This has failed today as well.

I can't think of anything that has changed. And all users are non-privileged so they can't make many changes them selves. Nor do they seem to try.

At this point I found that the firewall was enabled on computer B. I turned it off as we have a stateful firewall on the perimeter.

If I'm on computer B, then start > run: \\computerB
the window pops up with all shared resources and the printer included.

If I'm on computer A, then start > run: \\computerB
Computer A makes the attempt but then errors out. I didn't record the error at the office and I'm at home now, sorry Happy

I can't imagine what must have changed on computer B. If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears. TIA.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
