Without restore CDs you get to call HP/Compaq since a copy of XP Home is 199 bucks...
Here's a recent discussion of how to get at your data files. http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-7591-0.html?forumID=26&threadID=38819&messageID=455049&tag=
And here's where a person couldn't login, and where I use the RECOVERY CONSOLE, but sadly there is no click-here solution -> http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6142-0.html?forumID=5&threadID=32879&messageID=475660&tag=
Last night I restarted my laptop (compaq presario 2100) as normal. When it restarted, it wouldn't go past the blue XP screen that comes up as the computer starts. I thought this was nothing a reboot couldn't take care of, but I was wrong. No matter what I do, it will NOT pass this screen. It's like it freezes here. No user names pop up, nothing. The most I get is the ability to move the mouse around.
I tried "last good config." and safe mode, but NOTHING works. They all just lead to this screen. I don't have a backup disk and I don't have an XP disk to reinstall. Even if I did, I can't imagine a CD Rom disk would even start up. I am stumped. I hope someone can shed some light on my dilemma. Thank you so much.
