xp boots as far as autocheck ,says its missing it .....

Sep 1, 2010 1:42AM PDT

.....then flashes a screen too fast to read then reboots. the original system had boot issues after I used partition software to move to a bigger drive. I messes it up more using "r"repair console to replace mbr. xp setup disk doesn't see the system so it doesn't offer the repair option only the install one. If I slave it to another master WD hard drive with xp and assign it a drive letter I can see the the total contents so it's still all there just can't boot in.
winxp
wd ide hard drives

if more info is needed just ask
Thank,Dan

There is a known way to cause that message.

Let's say you had XP (and added service packs later). This version if you clone it to a drive larger than 127GB will cough and spew an error like that.

It's not busted. It's limited. This limitation was removed in XP SP1. Remember that the ORIGINAL VERSION OF THE XP matters here. Not what it reports after service packs.

If this does not apply I can't know that since details are missing.

it's not the moved system that won't boot

The original xp will not boot up

And

If you move drive positions it won't boot either. Nothing busted, just something Windows doesn't handle.

what are you talking about?

I want to know how to fix xp so it will boot up. it crashes at "missing autocheck"

So far.

I've yet to find anyone "fix" that if they moved the drive or added other drives.

If you return the old XP drive to it's working location, connection it might be possible that it will just work. There is no SATA drives so we don't have to cover that issue (or do we?)

If it fails then you can try the old XP REPAIR INSTALL (see google.)

the old hard drive has not been moved. xp repair install is not shown, only install or repair console. please reread all. the problem is WINXP WILL NOT BOOT PAST "autocheck missing"

I read it again.

You have a messed up volume from all that tinkering. If the XP repair fails you need to think what other options you have.

REMEMBER THAT XP REPAIR SHALL FAIL under many conditions. YOU WROTE ABOVE you tried to move to a larger drive. I noted how XP fails with over 127GB drives.

--> PLEASE don't omit any detail such as the EXACT version of XP CD you have, the size of the hard drives so I don't write about the old 127GB issue if it doesn't apply. So far it reads like the old issues.
