XP booting problem

I am having a problem with my pc.....when i first start it a msg is displayed "Please select a proper boot device or boot media" something like that. And when i start it again then windows start properly. Can anyone help me solving this problem.

It sounds like the HDD is starting to fail

You should back up any stuff you need to save before it quits for good.

Turn off the computer, unplug and open it. Check that your ide or sata cable is not damaged or improperly seated. Also make sure the little jumper on the back of the drive did not fall out. You might try a different or new cable to see if the cable has gone south. While these type problems are kind of uncommon, stranger things have happened.

If none of these helps, you should probably follow retired's advice. Then plan on replacing the HHD.

Loosely Connected

The problem is the cable connecting the HDD (if you boot from HDD) Or the cable connectin to CD drive(if you boot from CD) is loosely connected to mother board.Mae sure its intact.The second time your system got booted up is bcoz of the loosely connected cable.
