Xp and games problems

Feb 2, 2004 6:28AM PST

I am having problems with installing games on my laptop which has XP professional. I have been told by a gamer that it is not possible to install games on this as it is meant for work-related use - not at all sure I believe that. He also said that he has been told by a retailer of pc games that you can install games if you change the appearance from XP to classic - does any of this make sense to anyone out there? Are there games available for use with XP? Any help gratefully received.

I have Win XP Pro SP1 on 32bit File system. Most games installed and play without any problems. My vendor told me not to use NTFS if I want to play games. Appearance ? Non-classic. XP is supposed to support games. So--what are your problems ? Cannot/Doesn't install ? Doesn't play ? Any error messages? Example of games you are having problems with ?

Thanks 4 your reply - I have had trouble with Trivial Pursuit game - installs but will not run - and my step-daughter has problems with The Sims - not sure why that won't run (despite installing, unistalling, re-installing several times!!) because she keeps closing things down before I have a chance to look at the problem- wot part of don't do anything once it has installed, don't u undersand?! - My Eldest step-son also had a problem with a game on his pc, with XP, last week but I cannot remember the name - sorry sounds rather blonde of me. I am glad to know that you have installed and run games. I wil try and get more info - um, what is NTFS??

I have no problems with 'The Sims' I do not have the Trival Pursuits Games, so I am not able to comment in it. Older games also play well-Flight Simulator 98, Space Invaders, even older Arcade Games. Of course, I have no problems with newer games like Civilization III (I do not have the older vesions).

Something for you to check- DirectX installed ? Computer specifications matched game requirements ?

'NTFS', I think, stands for 'New Technology File System', an alternative File System to the standard 'FAT32'. It provides more security and .....
