XGL Live CD

Mar 8, 2006 6:07AM PST

If you are a Linux fan, than you probably have heard about XGL by now, if not...

XGL is going to make Linux look even better, check out this site to see some videos:

If you have a computer with a Nvidia or ATI graphics card, that is supported you can test drive a new Linux Live CD with XGL already pre-loaded. Learn more here:

I'm downloading the ISO right now, I REALLLLLY hope I can play with it later!

After all I've done
Mar 8, 2006 6:14AM PST

Installing Linux, installing/configuring drivers for my video card, installing and running Xgl, and installing/running compiz on version 10.0 of SuSE.

They take all the work out of it.

Oh well.

LOL

I know, I know!!!! Its insane! BUT, its still cool though. This thing probably won't even run on my computer, I'm not giving my specs, I'm going to try it anyways, LOL. I'm just hoping I'll get lucky and it will work.

Supposedly

Xgl is supposed to run well on just about any hardware. Of course, it's still experimental code, so it doesn't mean much, I guess.

Did you have any install problems? I can't get the insall to work.

Nope

What kind of install are you doing? I did a net install, just because I thought it sounded interesting, and it worked really well for me.

The only real problems I seem to run into involve my ATi video card and Xgl (stupid thing won't start correctly anymore), but I think that comes more out of ignorance than anything.

I can't get it :(
Mar 8, 2006 10:44AM PST

I'm trying to download the live cd but it keeps telling me 403 error forbidden access. I'm on OSX.4.5 using Camino any ideas why I can't download it?

Site Doesn't Work
Mar 8, 2006 10:46AM PST

Earlier today when I tried downloading it from their website it crashed on me and I could never get it to let me download it again. I went to LinuxTracker.org and got it. I'm not sure if the Mac browser has a torrent client built in, but you'll need one (you probably already know this).

What I use
Mar 8, 2006 10:54AM PST

dosen't matter to me. is their any reason to switch?

- Collapse -
Nope
Mar 8, 2006 10:56AM PST

No reason to switch, I haven't ever used Tomato (I think you called it) so for me to tell you to switch would be cRaZy.

okay
Mar 8, 2006 11:00AM PST

what I like about Tamato is that it allows me to specifi thet out going band with Max. the other torrents I used would only max out at 30k output this one I can output 600 (which I am). But the other ones where good too I just like to be in control.
