Question

Xeon or i7 for video editing

Hi all, I've graduated from college and looking for a laptop (I don't need a desktop).
95% of my work involves video editing and the other 5% is the use of 3d softwares.

Now I'm confused whether I should buy a laptop with an i7 processor or a xeon processor. I've done my homework online, but I'm still confused as to which one to go for.

My budget is 1000$. So could any of you please suggest me the laptop that I can go for

I just wanted to know will xeon processors have a drastic difference in the editing and the rendering time when compared to the i7 processors.

As a video editor you know (or don't?)

Given the video editor could leverage the GPU, you know you can't answer that question without benchmarking on the target system.

Two years ago it was a close match: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2660344/xeon.html
I'm afraid it's up to you to compare's today's laptop I7 with today's xeon processor.

However, as Bob said, the graphic card might be more important than the CPU. And also realise that for such tasks in general desktops perform better than laptops, since they in general have better cooling. So it could well be that after comparing a desktop with a laptop you say "I don't need a laptop."
