Xbox LIVE Gamertags

let me start off by saying that i am by no means a hardcore gamer. but i would like to say that i love Forza 3 passionately. however, i do not play LIVE, and so i have never set up an account for it. recently, i was drawn to the fact i can get more cars by downloading from LIVE, and began my path to creating an account. i stopped only after i was asked to "create a gamertag". i have a gamertag. i have a gamertag with my hard-earned Forza 3 profile on it. i dont have to give up my progress in order to start a LIVE account, do i?

xbox support was absolutley no help in the matter...i was hoping there was someone here who had gone through something similar.

Well if you created an account. I would think you would just have to recover your xbox live account. But thats a guess.

Connecting to Xbox Live

To connect to Xbox Live with an offline gamertag, hit the 360 button on your controller and select "Connect to Xbox LIVE" or similar. It will run you through some prompts. When you are done you will have an Xbox Live Silver account. You can not download user-made content with a Silver account (I think, anyway), and you can not play online games or join parties. If you want to do any of this you will need to pay for a Gold subscription.

so...once i start up my LIVE account i just have to recover my old gamertag? even tho its never been online?

I would think as long as your gametag is not taken. you would have to register it. But that's a guess. Keep us updated!

You would connect to xbox live and if your gamertag has already been used then it will ask you to change it. You might have a different name, but you keep your achievements, etc.
