General discussion

x700 vs. x800

May 19, 2005 4:52AM PDT

Hi, I just bought an Emachines T6212 and was considering adding a GPU, either the Ati Radeon x700 or x800 pci-express. Is the x800 worth the extra cost? Will the x700 be a very significant upgrade of the current vid card which is an ATI Radeon

way better. the x700 pretty much suks. if considering the x700, go for the nvidia 6600gt as it outperforms the x700.

oh yah, the x800xl is worth the extra price as u get 256bit and 16 pixel lines. x800xl even beats the 6800gt in some tests. if u have the dough, go for the x800xl. its $300 at compusa. if u dont, then go for the 6600gt. i think its still on sale at $160 at newegg. not sure if in stock though

dude...please...it's not so bad

the X700 isn't that bad, if you buy the correct compartive version
the X700XT is comparative to the 6600GT
the X700Pro is slightly slower

i'd suggest the 6600GT if your just wanting to game
I bought the 6800GT, gaming is amazing, but i'm not sure if i would do it again

oops forgot to answer ur other question...

yes! just upgrading to the x700 and u will see a big improvement.

however i would still get the 6600gt
as it cost $160 while the x700 cost $200 and the 6600gt performs better.

also, yes u can use nvidia card with ati board. some ppl have been confused. Happy

ati board?

did i miss something? i thought ATI was primarily a GPU manufacturer and not an actual mobo maker. course in my case i'm doing the exact opposite of that. nvidia chipset with an ati card.

When I first bought my T6212, I bought a x700 pro and there was a significant differnce in graphics compared to the stock onboard Xpress 200. I did end up taking the x700 back and exchanging it for the 6600GT OC. I like the 6600 GT OC a little better. Another bonus of getting a graphics card is that you get your shared memory back. So you will end up with a little more than 1.5 gigs of memory!
