X server crashes

Dec 9, 2005 2:57PM PST

System:
SuSE 10.0(All Patches)
Dell Lattitude C400
P3 1.0Gz, 512MB
Video: Intel 82830M(i830)
3d Accel: Disabled

The crash occurs when I switch logins using CTR + ALT + F(x) back into the userspace with the X server running(usually F7) The server crashes the display, but the computer still functions. Hopefully someone can help me, I've had this problem only with 10.0

Time to use a distro that works for you.

Given only what's in your post, I have no clue what the issue is. Since you're a regular here, you know how these forums work so I wonder why the smallest information was supplied. Do tell.

Let me try again

I haven't been able to identify the problem source completely, but it seems to be a bug within the X Server or the driver for my video card(intel 830m).

I can switch between the console modes using CTR+ALT+F1 etc... But when I switch BACK into the XDM, It completely renders the display useless, as though the kernel didn't panic, but the X server crashed. It looks similar to the same effect as when you turn off a GameBoy screen and it takes a while before the last image dissapears. Same thing kinda.

Did you report the bug?

" it seems to be a bug within the X Server or the driver for my video card(intel 830m). "

I don't have your laptop to play with, but you should report the bug to Novell and try another distro.
