What OS?

For XP there are no such drivers to remove or install. XP supplies the right ones.

There is an issue where the drive vanishes and your delete the UPPERFILTERS LOWERFILTERS in the registry, but given your post I can't tell if that applies to your machine.

Does it work with Nero/Roxio?

That's the real test. If you have a CD/DVD burning program, does it recognize the drive(s) correctly? If it does, don't worry about it. If not, then you have cause for concern.

Is that this ICON or Drive ID issue?

It's a nutty thing but what's most important is that Nero or what you use, works.

Cosmetic details are something I let others play with.

What makes you think they're wrong?
Mar 9, 2006 11:50PM PST

Aside from a very select exceptions, optical drives don't really have drivers. Pretty much everything works via the ATAPI interface common to all of them.

It's possible that the drive name you're seeing show up in Windows isn't what is on the package, but that doesn't mean anything. There's only about 3-4 companies that actually make the drives themselves, and they just have branding deals with all the other companies to slap that company's logo on the front and put them into boxes with that company's name on it.

So unless you've got some other reason for thinking they're the wrong drivers, I wouldn't worry about it.
