The correct answer is to never write on CD/DVD media. There are tomes about why this is so from the issue you noted to the other issues like distorting the media to that issue that some media is nearly transparent and writing on them with anything causes read errors.
The right answer is only determined by you.

Hello all. I recently bought a 100-pack of Taiyo Yuden DVDs with the silver lacquer 8x writing speed, blah blah blah. I was wondering if it is all right to write on these DVDs using some of the non-corrosive pens out there. I'm a bit confused since these discs look identical on both sides and wanted to know if these discs could be written on or if they were destined to remain in hard cases?
So if anyone could help me out on this, that would be great. Thanks!
