Resolved Question

Writing name & address permanently to internal memory

May 1, 2012 11:14PM PDT

For Panasonic DMC-FZ48

I read someone had done this and wondered how to as it seems a good idea.

I took the memory card out of my new DMC_FZ48, took a picture of A4 paper with my name and address.

But with the memory card reinserted that picture does not show. Perhaps internal memory has some special use ?

Any ideas ?

I assume you are wanting to do this for security reasons, or to identify a stolen camera.

What you tried would not be a permanent solution because anyone with some knowledge of digital cameras can delete photo files in internal memory.

What you did sounds right, it should have worked.
I wonder if your internal memory may have been full and you could not add any more pictures.
You should be able to clear the internal memory by removing the memory card and do a format of the camera internal memory.
Then try your experiment again.

Thanks snapshot2

I had done that already. The picture of my address only is viewable in internal memory when the memory card is removed.

Perhaps its best to use a luggage label and assume everyone is honnest Happy

I don't know about the Panasonic specifically, but with my old Kodak, it does not automatically playback what is in the internal memory unless I go into the menu and select it.

how about this?

Just a thought, but how about simply putting another copy of the name/address picture on the SD card? If someone takes out the card. they'll see the one in internal memory. If not, they'll see the one on your SD card. Rename it so it'll be at the top of the folder. Do this every time you put in a new SD card. It only takes a few seconds.

Thanks for the idea. It seems however, that these cameras write all sorts of files some of which cant be deleted so regular formatting by the camera is necessary.

I'm going to do this also. I have a Panasonic Lumix ZS8. You probably have to take the memory card out to see the pictures in the internal memory. So nobody would know it's there unless they go looking.
