Question

.wps file extension

Jul 10, 2011 3:25PM PDT

Exactly what do I need to open documents with file extension .wps? I recently had my operating system re-installed & now I cannot open them because my Office application (came pre-installed when I bought computer) is not on computer anymore & PC Doctors installed Open Office, which doesn't recognize .wps. I've been looking at Office progams on CNET but the more I read, the more confused I become. At this point I don't care if I have to buy it, but I'd like to keep cost under $100, if possible.

That's a Microsoft Works document.

Four options:
1. Have your OS reinstalled from the system recovery media that came with the PC. That should contain the program, assuming it came with the PC indeed.
2. Use the MS Works CD that came with your PC. All PC's I've seen that came with MS Works came with the installation CD. Yours, of course, might be a difference.
3. Buy MS Works and continue using it.
4. http://filext.com/file-extension/WPS says the free MS Word Viewer 2003 (maybe the current one also) can open it. I don't know from my own experience. Worth a try, however.

If I still had the CD, I would, of course, have re-installed Microsoft Office 2003. This morning I DID find the paperwork that came with it, including the Product Key Code/License (which I paid $150 for in 2006). And because Microsoft's website says a replacement CD CAN be ordered by phone, I called them; but I was told they no longer support Office 2003 & I would have to spent another $150 to buy 2010 version. I hung up on them; but I guess I'm going to have to buy something on CNET, since I not only want to read my old documents but continue creating things with MS Works because I like & am used to that format. As for re-installing the operating system again - no way. I am not adept enough to do it myself & it took PC Doctors 3 weeks to get it done (I have no way to transport computer myself & they pick up & deliver).

Thanks for trying to help.
