And Edwards comment later about 'What you see in you rear view mirror is closer than you think' has to be one of better one's to come out of it.

Hi, Del.

I still think a ticket of Edwards and Kerry would be the Dems' strongest. Personally, I slightly prefer Edwards, despite his youth. He reminds me of JFK in appealing to Americans' better natures. Of course, we'd see lots of lawyers slams from the Republicans with him as the candidate.

Tort reform is a key issue for Bush. It's a valid campaign issue and the electorate can have no reasonable expectation that a President Edwards would address it. He doesn't think trial lawyers are a special interest. Hmmmmmm...

I'm sure the oil companies would be at least as happy about 4 more years of Bush as trial lawyers would be about an Edwards presidency.

(NT)Basically some combo of groups would be happy with any candidate you can name

Surely you don't expect the oil companies to want another Jimmy Carter?

They probably still have nightmares about those days the way some Viet Nam vets still have nightmares.

My point was simply that no Bush supporter is in any position to criticize Kerry or anyone else for taking special interest money. In 2000, Bush accepted more special interest contributions than any other candidate for public office in the history of this country, and he'll likely do it again this year.

Special interest monies by any other name are "campaign contributions" and money is entirely necessary to run for any public office. I don't get too upset over that like some. What does upset me is when the liberals start wanting to cut out corporate contributions to the Republicans, while they have all kinds of money coming from foundations, some which also actively campaign on their behalf. All this talk and worry over "special interest" money has really degraded into each side trying to pass some laws that will be aimed more at the other side's means of financing campaigns, and has less to do with undue influence in government. I don't want to see the days where all capitalist are hamstrung by socialist laws, neither do I want to see a power structure like the Dutch West Indies company had where it had the power to control countries.

That was a good 'un, but IMO nothing will ever top Lloyd Bentsen's "I knew Jack Kennedy...." and the sight of all the blood leaving Quayle's face as the words were spoken.
