A Tea Party Republican Has a Stronger Impeachment Stance Than Nancy Pelosi

Over the weekend, Michigan's Justin Amash became the latest member of Congress to state publicly what any reasonable reader of special counsel Robert Mueller's report would conclude: Donald Trump engaged in impeachable conduct, and the legislature has a constitutional duty to hold him accountable. Unlike every other lawmaker who has made such an assertion thus far, however, Amash is a Tea Party Republican—and, in some strange turn of events, his position is more audacious than that of House Democratic leadership.

"America’s institutions depend on officials to uphold both the rules and spirit of our constitutional system even when to do so is personally inconvenient or yields a politically unfavorable outcome," Amash wrote in a series of tweets on Saturday. Anyone other than a sitting president, he argued, would have already been indicted on obstruction of justice charges based on Mueller's evidence, and the American system of checks and balances only functions if each branch upholds their end of the bargain. "Our Constitution is brilliant and awesome; it deserves a government to match it." Visitors to the Capitol on Tuesday morning were treated to the sight of Amash lecturing a tour group about the merits of impeaching his own party's leader posthaste.

the same for everything that BO and his administration, along with many current Dems, did against a duly elected Trump. BO CAN be impeached even tough he's no longer in the Oval. If you look back at Amash's record, he's been pretty ineffective when it comes to representing his constituents and he's been another establishment Rep who has been a pretty vocal 'never Trumper'. He's not long for keeping that seat...he's already got a challenger for 2020. Lower announced his running earlier than he anticipated because of Amash's statements.

Amash, though, isn't just the odd man out because he votes more against Trump than most Republicans. He's part of a small group of Republicans who often vote against Trump because they feel some of the positions he takes are insufficiently conservative. FreedomWorks, a group associated with the tea party and more libertarian positions, gives Amash a 100% lifetime score on its recent legislative scorecard. Compare that to someone like Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, who also has voted with Trump less than 70% of the time. His FreedomWorks lifetime score is only 29%.

3% of conservative Republicans think the President should be impeached and removed from office. That climbs to 11% among Republicans who do not identify as conservative.

A member of the Tea Party that is a "never Trumper"? NO WAY!!!!
