I know a lot of PCs that would overheat and fail under the load.

Full disclosure. I won't read your links until I'm at a desktop, but I reserve the right to answer anyway. I do assume you're not a stalking horse for Lee or CBS. ![]()
Just tripped over the Salon.com article. It appears they may be the first to implement this up front. So far I've only seen it as hidden in JavaScript in some sites.
or I would jump all over him for that "bitcoing". Although I suspect a spellchecker 'finished' it for him.

I know very little about mining, but I do understand it sucks electricity like a bee in clover. Have to pass on that alone. I'm not a certified treehugger [just certifiable], but that's just too much for a world that has cheaper forms of greed fulfillment available.
No and I won't be visiting Salon anyway. But even if more sites ask this of me , I'll just have to go to a different site.
Even though I don't use my processor to it's full ability , that doesn't mean I want someone else use it.
it's one of the reasons I don't Torrent .....
Salon is just one of many news and opinion sites. When they're all glommed onto one, owned by Alphabet [headquartered in Beijing], then what?
The AI article I mentioned elsewhere says that could be the end of human humanity, if you follow me. Too powerful to be avoided. Utopian fiction like Person of Interest and anything from Disney/Pixar 'reassures' people via happyhappyhappy endings. Can't be done, not with imperfect people building yet anorher imperfect system.
China: Xi is well on his way to becoming another Hitler, Peter the Great, Stalin, Mugabe ... He's intelligent enough to pull it off and foolish enough to ignore the one common fate of all of them. Ps 146:3 tells us that, but look at the damage done in the meantime.
Me, I don't worry about it because I'm confident in the existence of a better system. That of course makes me foolish. ![]()
Except, it's working for us now.
Now, that is one sneaky proposal.
"Do you want to disable ad blocking?"
___ Yes, I want to see all ads.
___ No, I can't live without ads.
