General discussion

would my laptop be able to run win7?

Oct 6, 2009 11:40AM PDT

Hello I have had my laptop for over 3 months now. Runs good, no problems at all so far. So I've read in a thread that I will need some 16GBs of RAM to run Win7 or something. Anyways I might have read it wrong or I just don't understand all the computer stuff. So here are all my laptop specs and can someone please tell me if my laptop will be able to run Win7?

OS:
Windows Vista Home Premium SP2
System:
HP G60 Notebook PC
Processor: Pentium Dual-Core CPU T4200@2.00GHz
Memory: 3.00 GB
System: 32-bit OS

Closing notes: I seriously hate Vista and cannot wait for the Win7 release. So if I can upgrade I will be happy. Thanks for any help in advance.

I have a 10 month old HP DV4t and it is running the Full Windows 7 Professional, that I got from MSDNAA. I have had no problems.

You meet all the requirements for Windows 7. Most Computers with Vista should run Windows 7 correctly.

Here's the requirements it asks for:
If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Additional requirements to use certain features:

Internet access (fees may apply)

Depending on resolution, video playback may require additional memory and advanced graphics hardware

For some Windows Media Center functionality a TV tuner and additional hardware may be required

DVD/CD authoring requires a compatible optical drive

you want to go from one evil to another. i have a 1300.00 vista 32 bit pc here locked up solid. it will not boot up. i had it for 4 years 2 years good. i knew nothing about vista but my wife was in hospital dying at xmas and my xp pc died. one pc in city to be had a vista. i just wanted a working pc. so i bought it worked good till the problems started to add up and i used it till it stopped. now im into 2 weeks with windows 7. i did a system restore and the optical drive disappeared. no support from hp or windows. iv been tying every nite. windows will not put patch out until alot of the pcs have the same problem.and they are building up so i was told. i have 3 year warr. not covered. i can get it fixed for 29.95 but the drive could disappear again.it is in windows system on some of the pcs . not all of them. i have one.they were on sale at tiger direct so i went for it. some sale. so thats just one of the many flaws of this system. not much diff from vista. read up you will find out. good luck walter

Odd to reply about your troubles to an old post.

But the missing drive is not just a windows issue.

Others will help but not if you hide your requests as well as show a penchant to make a request look like an indictment of the industry.

So let's see your new post and let's see if you take the hint there is help out there. Yes, I may have to install a new DVDRW drive but that's cheap and par for a few year old machine.

About the 1,300 dollar machine. I can only guess you missed the days these were 13,000 dollars.
