Worth switching to Cingular from Verizon to get Treo 650?

Feb 24, 2005 5:26AM PST

I have Verizon right now and they pretty much have the best coverage in this area (Wash, DC Metro), but as you all know, they don't always have the latest or greatest phones. They have the Treo 600, but I would really like to get the 650. Is Cingular any better now that they have merged with At&T?

Thoughts? Warnings?

Worth switching to Cingular from Verizon to get Treo 650?

I don't know about Washington DC, but in NW Indiana, Cingular's coverage has always been good. People I speak to don't like Cingular's customer service. My friend is in the process of cancelling his service since Cingular is giving him a hassle with his AT&T contract, and he's on TDMA service, and GSM only works in heavily populated parts of NW Indiana. Most of rural Indiana isn't even covered by GSM. If you decide to go with Cingular, expect poor customer service from them. My friend is one of those dissatisied with Cingular, along with my mom & sister, plus a cousin. Cingular didn't meet my needs when they were Cellular One, and don't meet my needs today.

Thanks for the info. I guess I was right, Cingular hasn't improved much even with the merger. I guess I'll be sticking with Verizon.

I'm going to switch to Verizon

I've been a cingular customer for about 6 years now. Recently I was charged for a call on my bill that I didn't think I made. It was to a non existant number.
I called Cingular and the customer service rep said that I was obligated to pay for the call. He said I had signed the agreement in the contract.
I didn't like his tone of voice. I told him the number I was being billed for wasn't a working number. That didn't seem to make any difference to him.
I hung up and resigned myself to being billed for a call I didn't make.
When I told my daughter, who is a verizon subscriber, what had happened she suggested I switch to Verizon. She says whenever she has an issue with a call their customer reps just make good on the charge.
I called Cingular and have about a month left on my contract.
I'm going to switch. You think after 6 years of paying my phone bill every month Cingular would take a more customer service attitude. Guess they've instructed their Customer service reps that "Money first, Service second"
