Worst Hosting services

Dec 20, 2013 3:37AM PST

Just a heads up I've been trying to find good and inexpensive hosting site and so far I've had no luck.
The worst by far is Netfirms since they were bought out and moved to Boston they are absolutely pathetic both from a reliability stand point and also from a core competencies of support staff stand point.
Hostpapa is the host I've been testing lately and they were fine for a year but I've been having problems lately. One of hostpapa's ip is being blocked by spamhaus and unfortunately my domain resides in this server as a result most of my email is bouncing back. This should not be a difficult problem to resolve but I'm finding Hostpapa's support also unresponsive, uncaring and plain awful. I guess you pay peanuts you get monkeys...

As a side note,

if you have a dedicated IP address for your site, you can request for it to be removed from various blacklists, however, if you are on a shared server, I wouldn't do that, because you can't control the other sites on that server that may be still sending out spam.

Dedicated ip
Dec 20, 2013 9:13AM PST

A manager from hostpapa got back to me after being down all day and let me know that i could have a dedicated ip for the site.
Sovereign you mention this, but also allude to this being only possible with a dedicated server. That was also my impression, since i figured one nic or virtual nic one ip! Right? But apparently you can be on a shared server and still have your site on it's own ip. The best part if its true is that it's only $36/yr.

Yes, you can have a dedicated IP

on a shared server, so that is an option. That said, it sounds like there are other issues at play here with the hosting service in general (downtime, unresponsive support, etc.)

Alternatively, you can use Microsoft's hosted email service for your domain for free, which allows you to send and receive email using their servers, even if your website is hosted somewhere else.

Lastly, if your server is not able to deliver email reliably, you can also look into SMTP services like SendGrid, which will deliver email on your behalf.
