worm

Dec 3, 2003 8:18AM PST

A friend of mine just got a new gateway computer. She has had it 3 weeks. She cant get any help from gateway. she is using XP and IE6 and NAV 2003 but I dont think her definitios are current say she dosen't know how to update them. ( Im showing her that). When shes surfing her compter just shuts complety down. One of the guys in our IT dept at work told her she has a worm. Can someone tell me what kind of worm causes a computer to just shut down, so we can try to fix hers.

Thanks
Nancy

Enable ICF (MS firewall on XP) to prevent the shutdowns while she is trying to patch her PC. Up-to-date virus defs won't stop the shutdown issue as the shutdown is a result of the attempt to infect, not because the PC has been infected.

Disable uPnP
