Worlds oldest pornography found, where else? Germany.

Apr 16, 2005 10:19AM PDT

"Stone-age figurines depicting what could be the oldest pornographic scene in the world have been unearthed in Germany.
"Archaeologists have discovered what they believe to be the 7,200-year-old remnants of a man having intercourse with a woman.
"The extraordinary find, at an archaeological dig in Saxony, $hatters the belief that sex was a taboo subject in that era.
"Until now, the oldest representations of sexual scenes were frescos from about 2,000 years ago."

The Reeperbahn has since moved to Hamburg.

Rob

Apparently the word shatters, that's $hatters is illegal on SE forum.

Fascinating. (yawn)

I have noticed that this is a subject of great interest among liberals. My theory is that it is a strong motivator for the liberal mindset. I, of course, do not pretend that such interest is limited to the liberal camp.

I began to notice this correlation when viewing Bill Maurer's (sp?) program.

And the article is not about pornography because pornography is a construct of the last 2 or 3 centuries. It's about archaeology, and a mild dig at the Germans. I can do that. I had a German Grandmother.

to liberals. If they didn't exist you'd have to invent them, sort of like the devil. In fact, aren't you confusing them with the devil? All liberals want to do is make everybody happy instead of making just a few people happy. That's liberals' weakness, they try to make sure everybody's okay, has enough to eat, a place to live support for their old age, and along come the conservatives yelling at them like they're the Anti-Christ and poor old liberals just want to shrivel up and die, which is exactly what the conservatives want too. Its a shame, really. Wink

I think ...
Apr 18, 2005 1:16AM PDT

... questioning the collective morality, or whatever, of the German people is somewhat fair game. The Nazi era evolved slowly from within and required at least some appeasement/complacency on the part of the German people. I say this with full disclosure that it is an uncomfortable truth to come to grips with as my ancestry is largely German. The same can be said for the roll-over French. In current times, the peoples of these countries cannot be let off the hook entirely (they elect their governments), but the biggest problems seem to be with their governments' actions on the international scene. So that while we are told that the Europeans and Brits were largely against the actions in Iraq (not sure how entirely true this is, but ...) there were governments that did the right thing, and those that stabbed their supposed allies in the back and where France and Germany are concerned it is easy to see why -- their GOVERNMENTS have dirty hands from Saddam dealings Sad

I was not aware of some reason to pick on the Germans with a "where else?" snit where pornography was concerned!

Conservatives buy/view just as much porn as liberals (maybe even more). They're just a lot less likely to admit it.

How do you know Josh that conservatives buy as much, maybe even more, porn than liberals? Are there studies that back that up, or is that just your emotional defense of your 'side'? Consider: liberals are constantly striving to make porn ever more widely available. Conservatives are constantly trying to suppress it. So, you are maintaining that both sides work against their own desires and self interest?

Nobody's trying to make anything more widely available. Liberals just don't happen to think that they should be able to impose their personal standards on everyone else. If you don't want to buy/see it, don't.

Do I have links about the demographics? No. But I'm willing to bet that the billions being made by the porn industry aren't all coming from Blue states. We were in Texas recently and we saw a LOT more nudie bars from the highway than you see around here. Somebody must be patronizing those places.

Really? Nobody? I suggest you get out of your house a little more often. While liberals like to use that old ploy "We don't want others imposing.....", the fact remains that they ARE working hard to make porn more widely available. I don't think very many are motivated by purely altruistic desires.

I began to notice this correlation when viewing Bill Maurer's (sp?) program.

I don't see 'mostly liberal's watching porn'. Perhaps if you highlighted it for my ancient eyesight. I also used the word theory....Oh yes, I forgot. You guys think 'theory' is a synonym for 'fact' don't you?

Who is it who is trying to impose a regime in which historical ideas and values are driven out of the public square? Hint: it's not conservatives.

Trying to overturn laws that restrict individual liberty and to gain court decisions that empower individual action is the goal.

You are free to maintain whatever values you wish and to call them whatever you wish. You do not have the right to impose on others your values by force of law. That is what the fundamentalist right is trying to do.

Liberals are caught trying to conform to the First Amendment
Apr 18, 2005 6:02AM PDT

Any liberal I have ever known, met or heard about loathes the spread of pornography, and certainly none of them "strive to make porn ever more widely available". There is a small cadre of pornographers and their hired guns who do that.

The trouble is in a fight between the First Amendment and Conservative opposition, the choice is a obvious, because only the Conservatives seek to restrict all free speech, protest, burning the flag, etc. rather than just pornography. If the Conservatives were to back out of the conflict it would be harder to allow porn. But the Cons. can't afford to back away because it allows them to pretend to be more "moral" than liberals. Give up that stick to beat liberals with and who knows, some people may actually see the constrictive hand of censorship and thought police approaching.
