Re: copying into Works

You don't tell WHAT you try to copy, and that makes it impossible to try here. Moreover, I don't have Works installed. It came with many PC's and never installed it (if it came on CD only) or uninstalled it (if it came installed). So I couldn't try it anyway, but maybe someone else could.

This once again, in my opinion, proves that MS Works is a suite of programs to forget, uninstall and not use.

Why not download OpenOffice or it's newer cousin LibreOffice? Bot are free and probably work better for this purpose, and they have the obvious advantage they can make documents (and spreadsheets and presentations) that everybody can read (they can save in MS Office format), while there's nobody (except you) who can read MS Works stuff. A nice feature if you want to share your work with somebody else.

I agree

Works has long since been a useful suite of programs. With OpenOffice and WordPad/NotePad etc, I've basically eradicated the need for this suite. Especially with all the problems it has with newer systems. Then again, the fact that the original poster stated "Works 2004" can help with it too. I think something people to need to understand is that programs/software that are nearly 10 yrs old are NOT going to function properly on new systems.

Answer
Which Task?
Dec 29, 2011 5:04AM PST

When are you seeing the error message? There have been a number of Works "memory" issues over time. It's important to know exactly which subprogram in Works you are using when you see the error. It frequently occurs when printing.. Remember also, there is a Works Suite and there is the vanilla version of Works. (The suite uses MS Word as the word processor while the plain version of Works has its own, separate word processor.) Make sure you get it right..

First, because this type of error can sometimes be traced to a glitch in the program requiring the user to be an administrator, try running Works as an admin.

If that doesn't help, then visit the Microsoft Works website and check for program updates for Works 2004 as they may have an update for your version of Works which will fix the memory error. .

Hope this helps.

And Just A Note: Works 2004 Not Supported On Win7
Dec 29, 2011 5:06AM PST

The MS Word version in Works 2004 is Word 2002. Although it "should" work fine most of the time on Win7, it doesn't mean it's going to function as well as a fully supported word processing program.

Hope this helps.
