Wordperfect 11 locking up!

by Sazie / April 4, 2008 12:31 AM PDT

My OS is Windows XP, SP2. I can load small pages in WP 11, but when I try to download a list of addresses (590 KB), it goes into the Recovery Manager Wizard which only leads to WP locking up. I did rename WP11US.wpt, but that didn't help either. Every once in a while, when I download a small page, it is blank, but you can see the words in reveal codes.

Advice really needed!

Thanks!

but it's been working perfectly up until yesterday. Not sure what you mean by where - I'm at work? :o)

That's good.

At work means "call the IT" and let them work it out.

And it worked yesterday means your IT staffer can clean up temp files, restore the machine to yesterday and reimage the machine to get you back up and running.

Should have a plan like I noted.

Well, at the moment.....

I'm it or IT! It seems that it only locks up when I open the address list. I tried opening it in Word and got an error there too. There must be some type of error in it. Would you have a clue what that might be or how to find it?

Then the file has an error?

Now it's time to test the office backup system. Go get an older version of the file.

Yes.....

an older version works, but it doesn't have everything I need in it.

Sorry to state obvious.

Then add what's missing? Test the file on other machines, and by all means try to open it in OPEN OFFICE.

Add what's missing?

I really wouldn't know what's missing until I needed it since it's addresses, phone numbers, etc. I do have a dump file I can copy on here. Would that explain anything? I don't have Open Office but I can probably find it somewhere.

Whoops

It does not work in another computer in this office either.

As you can see any machine/os/application repair is now uncalled for.

How had the file last might have a backup copy or even the .BAK of the same file. Again I write "try it in OPEN OFFICE." I've saved a few pieces of bacon with that freebie.

Open Office

Sigh - nope, Open Office locked up too. I'll just have to rebuild that file as I go. Thanks for all of your help!!!!
