WordPad

Feb 8, 2004 6:38AM PST

I have XP Pro and I cannot find WordPad anywhere on my
machine. NotePad is there, but not WordPad. Is there
somewhere on my XP installation CD where I can find
WordPad to install by itself? I have explored the CD
and cannot find it myself.

Thanks,

~Dave

Dave, have you looked in...

Start|Programs|Accessories - WordPad should appear as the last item on the accessories menu. At least that is where it appears on my system. I have no knowledge of where to find it on the XP installation CD.

Good luck!

Yes. It's not there. Thanks anyway.

Mine is located in C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe.
If you find it there, just make a shortcut to it. It is normally included with the OS, so it should be there.

Thanks for the reply. That directory is empty on my machine.

make a search for...

all files and folders named wordpad.exe ? Word pad should have been installed by default.

Mailman, just a thought...

Following Ray Strauss's C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories the only file under Accessories is WordPad which is only 186KB.

I wonder what would happen if you copied this from a friend and entered it in the Accessories folder. My mind is just running wild... don't see how it could hurt and could always be deleted if unsuccessful. Grin

There must be a way to handle this without installing XP again.

Try go to your C:\WINDOWS\inf (thru MS Explorer), right click on the file "wordpad.inf" then select "install" to see you can recreate WORDPad into your WinXP or not.

Good luck!

I took the advice to do a search for wordpad.exe. it
was found on my hdd, just not where it was supposed
to be. I put it in the correct folder and put a shortcut
in my start bar. It works just fine now.

Thanks much for all your suggestions.
