The Word viewer 2003 opens and prints documents with .doc extension.
Adobe reader opens and prints documents with .pdf extension.

So the simple question: what's the extension of the documents sent to you from work. If you can't find out yourself (see http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1269/vista_show_unhide_file_extensions/): ask the sender.

Once you know it, post the answer here for more specific help.

the extension of the file is .doc, however the type says doc_auto_file. i hope that is the answer you are asking for.

That's a strange fileype ("doc_auto-file"). I can find only a few hits for it on google, all related to your problem, but without any clear solution.

Try the following:
1. Save the attachment to your hard drive.
2. Run the Word 2003 viewer from Start>Programs.
3. Do File>Open, browse the file you saved in #1 and choose "Open".
Tell exactly what happens then.

It's not a fix. It's a work-around.

But who cares? Glad I could help.
