Word requests virus scan

Jan 5, 2004 9:57PM PST

I have office 2002 and Norton 2003 Antivirus installed. Whenever I start Word, it takes a long, long time to boot up. I see in the lower left corner of the Word startup screen a message that it is requesting a virus scan.

I've looked through several menus, both in Word and Norton, for a way to make Word stop requesting the virus scan, and I don't see one. Does anyone here know of a way to fix this problem?

I have exactly the same problem and no solution - why do these dumb-asses make their programmes so they won't do what you want?

I think my problem started when I downloaded the windows 98 upgrade pack. And I think it is a plot by Bill Gates to make win98 crap so you 'upgrade' to XP.

But I won't - as it is worse!!

Please help me turn off this 'virus scan' crap!!

Thanks in advance

Word Xp (2002) Still VERY SLOW to open 1st Time
Jan 30, 2005 3:48AM PST

I am running Word XP (same problem w/no SP and after updating to SP3) and Norton AV 2002 and I turned off the Office Plug-In as you suggested. So I no longer get the "requesting virus scan" message but it still takes a LONG time (18-20 seconds or more) for Word to open the first time. Then I can close/re-open right away and it's okay.. until time goes by and whatever was "cached" isn't anymore. Any help would be MUCH apprecitated.
