Question

Word processing on Macintosh Classic?

Jan 21, 2014 3:18AM PST

Hi all,

I just bought a Macintosh Plus from the mid 80s with an external floppy and am wondering if anybody knows the best way to use it for word processing. Do I buy a separate floppy disk with a program with Microsoft Word on it and insert it in the computer before booting up, then do I save files to the external drive? I hardly know how to use the thing; any input is much appreciated. Thank you!

But from memory the machine had a capable for that day text or word processor. Ebay might find Word but I suggest you try it as-is and what apps are on the machine. The next problem is how to get your files or documents to others. Very few folk can read those diskettes today and not all Pluses could get on the internet.

program for the early Macs.
As Bob suggested, fire it up and see what is already on there.

MacWrite, a word processor, shipped on all Macs.

If your version of the Mac_Plus has an internal hard drive, then once you have located a copy of Word, you just install it in the same way as programs are installed now.
20MB was the HD size that shipped on later models of the Plus.

Just last month, a document I opened was, well, how about this one?

"124 MB (130,501,632 bytes)"

My, times have changed.
