Word problems

Aug 11, 2004 11:27PM PDT

I just installed Office 2003 at home. When I use Word and try to open a doc, I keep getting the "this file unavailable." Yet it is a .doc file. Also when exiting, I get a meessage saying: "you have made changes to your normal.dot file, you do want to save them?" This happens all the time. I tried to reload office 2003. No luck. My work PC will operate fine and I can open my home files at work. I am frustrated by this. I would appreciate some advice on how to cure this problem.

- Did you try to purge the normal.dot file?
- Can your open a new file, type something in it, save it and open it again?
- Can you open this (one?) dot-file giving problems on another machine with Word 2003? And on this machine with the older Word version you had (you can have them both operational)?
- Did you try a repair of Word in MS Office setup?
