Question

Word & page border?

Oct 24, 2011 3:20AM PDT

Win XP sp2 and Word97. I've been needing to type a blank underline in a document like for a signature line and if nothing else is on that line my underline turns bold and goes all the way accross. I think it's turning it into a page border. When I mouse on it, it turns into a dashed line you can move up or down.

I can go into Format - Borders and Shading and pick None and it sometimes removes it.

Anyway to turn off this feature?

Answer
Underscore?

I've always used the Underscore for signature underlines.

But can you clarify? Is this document to be printed out, or is it to be signed electronically? The underscore should work on a print out, but will not if this is an electronic document.

That works. I guess I never looked around at all the features. I went to Auto Correct options and unchecked everything! Lots of stuff I didn't like it doing to me. Especially if I type 1. xxxxxx then the next line it auto makes 2. etc. and I can't get out of line list numbering.

Actually I am typing up surveying statements to make into HotKeys for my husband to enter on Parcel Maps and Records of Survey. First I type it up into Word then paste it into my Hotkey script. Then I add {enter} at the beginning of every line and then hit backspace at the beginning of every line to move it up to the end of the next line to turn it all into one long line for Hotkeys. I just started using Hotkeys that's all I know so far. Type SEND and one long line with {enter} for line breaks. Know a better way?
