I have no idea what is causing this and it only happens when they access these templates. Does anybody know what is going on?

Thanks

I'm afraid the best solution would be to recreate the templates from scratch. Apparently, something is wrong with them.

Thanks for the info. But the strange thing is other machines running the same setup have no problems with these templates. It is only a few machines that are experiencing problems.

There is over 100 templates and recreating them would take a lifetime. Does anybody else have any ideas?

You didn't tell that, or I would not have suggested what I did. Hope you don't blame me.

- I suppose you already copied the templates from a working machine to a non-working machine (or possibly they are in a shared folder). That's obvious.
- Then try copying normal.dot also. Bad normal.dot files can be fatal, although this would be a strange symptom.
- Repair Word from the Office CD.
- Same version of the printer driver used? Try a new document with another printer (as an experiment).

All wild guesses of course.

If it's a business environment, don't spend too much time searching. Just format and reinstall OS and supported applications or restore the disk image you made. Business environments should have few local files, good backups and procedures for replacing broken or non-functioning PC's. This is obviously a good time to do it.

Hope this helps.

May I add this. The dirty .DOT secret.

.DOT files hide a dark problem. As you notice the NORMAL.DOT files will grow and self-corrupt over time, so will your other .DOT files. We found this out years ago and learned to backup up such files or at least make such READ-ONLY on the server.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
