Word & Excell - select printing

Jun 3, 2004 7:33PM PDT

I have a problem that I just can't find the solution to and hope for some help here. I use Excell and Word and have this problem in both. How do you select just a section of a document and print that selection on the exact spot in the document. What I mean is say you have lines numbered 1 thru ten and then you type a line 11 and want to put that original sheet of paper with lines 1 thru 10 on them...select just line 11 by highlighting it and then print and have line 11 print right after line 10. I've tried this and the line 11 always prints at the top of the page. I also can't get excell to do this. when I highlight a cell or selection of cells to print it too just prints on the top of the page.
Thanks to anyone who can solve this problem.

(NT) Sorry, but that's the way it works. You'll have to live with it.

Here's the workaround.

1. Change the font color for the document to WHITE.

2. Change the font color for what you want to print to BLACK.

3. Print the page that contains what you want.

Solved.

Bob,

That's a smart workaround indeed. But you will find it difficult to locate line 11 in step 2, because it's white on white now. Better temporarily change the background to, say, blue and to white again afterwards, or split step 1 in two parts (upper and lower).

And you would need a printer with a very stable and reproducible paper feed mechanism. Half a millimeter (that's 1/50th of an inch) off, and with normal text you would certainly see that it doesn't fit. On my current printers, I should prefer printing line 1 to 11 on a new blank sheet of paper. But I admit it might depend on the application.

Word & Excell - select with mouse.

It works without changing the backgroud since as you highlight the intended text/items, they become readable.

I had this request before in regards to forms printing. The text had to land just so...

thanks to all...but the changing font color would just be a nightmare. I work for an attorney and update pleadings all day...I can't believe that this one simple thing (which is so possible in Wordperfect) can't be accomplished in Word!...I'm definately not saving any forrest now!

Changing font color.

ctrl-A = select all
click on font color icon in toolbar
select white
click

I can't see why this should be a nightmare. If you hate doing 4 things you can record a macro which does it in one thing. And one for undoing it, of course.

We move from impossible to possible in simple steps and it's called a nightmare.

Just watch as I smile and wonder how I ever got along years ago without my PC.
