Word 97

Jun 6, 2004 5:36PM PDT

I am getting an error message when I try to print certain Word Docs. But not all docs give me the error message. Im running XP Pro. And I am printing to an HP LaserJet 2300L. After trying to print the doc, it resaves it with a ~ at the beginning of the file name. And the printer spits out a sheet with

PCL XL Error
Subsystem KERNAL
Error: Illegal Operator Sequence
Operator: Ox1b
Position: 501

I also get a screen that aske if I want to send the error report to Microsoft.

Error Signature

AppName:winowrd.exe
AppVer : 8.0.0.4412 ModName: unidrv.dll
ModVer: 0.3.1281.1 Offset:0003a7da

I tryed a re-install of Office and it dodnt fix this problem.

I wonder if an uninstall and a re-installl would help. But I have a feeling that there is something in the particular doc file that is causing this to happen because it prints some doc files without the error message.

Some suggestions:

- Mail the document to somebody (might be your work, home or school or a friend) with another printer and see what happens if it's printed there.
- Download (www.hp.com) and install the latest driver for this printer.
- Install some other printer driver (any old HP Laserjet, they started with 2, I think) will do and use that; most modern Laserjets still understand that version of PCL
- Try print preview on screen, starting with page 1, going down until you get an error; this might use the same driver and produce a comparable error; then delete the offending page to see what happens.

Hope this helps,

Kees

try if Write (the Work processor component in Open Office , see www.openoffice.org) does happen to print the document correctly.
