Word 2007 - print layout

Apr 7, 2011 1:00AM PDT

Hi,

I'm having trouble with documents that I open in Word 2007. I want all of my documents, whether I open them as a new file or whether I open an already-saved file, to open in the Print Layout view.

I've changed my normal template to be in print layout whenever I open a new document, but whenever I try to open an existing document, it defaults to the Draft view. I've googled 'til I'm blue in the face and haven't found the answer.

The closest answer I've found is to go into Word Options/Advanced/General and then uncheck the box that says to "Allow opening a document in Draft view," except that that's never been checked. I checked the box, saved, closed the program, re-opened it, and unchecked the box, saved, and closed the program, but that did nothing.

Any advice at all is appreciated. This is driving me absolutely crazy.

Thank you!

All I can suggest is
Apr 8, 2011 5:02AM PDT

relacing Word's Normal.dot file.

In Word 2007 this is Normal.dotm.

Normal.dot is the template for Word and if it gets corrupted it can have unusual effects. If you close down Word, and delete the Normal.dotm file, it will get re-created when you next open Word.

May be then you will be able to change the default view as you require.

More about Normal.dotm here; http://forums.techarena.in/ms-office-support/1064659.htm

Hope that works.

(NT) Error correction. Relacing = Replacing.

It looks like that might have worked!

Thank you! I went ahead and deleted the normal.dotm file, then re-opened Word and so far, both new files and already-created files are in the print layout that I wanted.

Thanks again! Happy

And let's hope it has solved the problem permanently.
